PTH. Personal Tropical Holidays. They fricking suck. If I can warn any of my younger gal pals of anything it’s this. Hey, maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones (like my mother) that never has a single “episode”. Me?? Not so much.
That feeling of intense heat from the inside out?!?! Awful. Brings on every other symptom as far as I am concerned. I remember a hot July afternoon and my internal temperature had changed so many times in a day that it sent me into a full blown panic attack. I couldn’t eat. Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t sleep. I was a mess. I was on fire.
I also didn’t understand how much I was doing to myself. There are tons of triggers that make it worse! The worst can be caffeine, red wine and gluten for just about all of us, but then we’ll all have our own extras too. Dairy. Sugar. Stress.
Change of life is right!! Everything you have called “normal” is upside down! That sure is a change! You handle things differently. You react different than before. Your thoughts change about EVERYTHING.
But I digress…this blog is about a life hack every woman having hot flashes needs to know!!!
Peppermint and Eucalyptus are naturally cooling! Grab some essential oils and a little pocket sized spray bottle. When you feel you heat start to rise, spray on the back of your neck at the hairline and you will cool down in mere moments!!!
A client at one of my last jobs bought me a cooling spray a couple of years ago because she felt terrible for me!! HA! She paid $18 dollars for a teeny tiny bottle that only lasted a few months. Make your own … cheaper and better quality!!
I used about 15 drops of each essential oil in a 3 ounce bottle. 1 tsp of witch hazel to mix the oils and the water. 1/4 ounce of vodka will also work. Shake it up and cool off!
